Welcome to Waukegan Marina

We have tickets home from the Chicago O’Hare airport; and chose  Waukegan as a good marina to leave our boat for a week.

Calm day on the water, and pulled into the fuel dock about 4pm.  IMG_0216

After fuel and pump out we moved into our assigned slip.  It is a popular spot for charter fishing boats!  We took a bike ride to the end of the pier; and really noticed how short the days are becoming- it was dusk by 8:15.   Note to self- get lights for our bikes!IMG_0230

Spent a quiet evening going over charts and maps planning our ride to the airport; and the next leg of our trip.  Woke up to early morning fog.

We had received mixed reviews of this marina- It is a nice marina, but very few choices for provisioning with in walking or biking distance.   In fact it is the first town with limited tourism books, and none with a city map!   One sign of the lagging economy is the neglected north section of docks adjacent to our updated marina.    Apparently money dried up in the mist of the project and it stands empty.   Luckily the south section was completed with floating docks and nice walkways.

Very secure- gated and monitored 24/7.  So the boat is taken care of while we go take care of business in Buffalo.  One last trip home before heading through Chicago and beginning our run down the inland rivers in September.
